The Magyu (Mother Lineage) Program is a life path, not something you do for a certificate like in a training program of some sort. It is meant to bring you to awakening and that takes a long time, much more time than is in the Magyu Program listed here. The Magyu Program is a container and a path on which you progress toward your own awakening. This path is also flexible so that people can really take it at their own pace. In Magyu you will have a Kalyanamitra or spiritual friend assigned to you. This person can help you to figure out what pace of practice is both in line with what you are able to do and what will help to give you a sense of continuity and depth and moving forward. The path typically can take between 8-10 years.

This really depends on the pace at which you are moving through the practice requirements. On average a yearly visit to Tara Mandala is sufficient to sit a retreat and be taught the practices that would last you until your next years visit. If you are progressing more quickly through the practices then you might want to organise a couple of trips to Tara Mandala in one year. There is also no limit to the amount of times you can come in one year. You can also participate in retreats without the intention to begin the practices right away. Perhaps it is just the right time for you to take that retreat. You can also of course sit retreats that are not part of the Magyu path if you feel that a certain retreat is calling to you.
