Chöd: The Sacred Teachings on Severance

with Lama Sarah Harding and Lopön Polly Ryan MA MFT

March 13 - May 29, 2019

with Lama Sarah Harding and Lopön Polly Ryan MA MFT

“Chöd: The Sacred Teachings on Severance,” compiled by Jamgön Kongtrul and translated by Lama Sarah Harding, will be the subject of the 10-week book study offered by Polly Ryan, MA, MFT, Lama Sarah Harding and the Tara Mandala Northern Sierra Sangha. This course begins March 13, 2019 from 9:00 – 10:30am Pacific Time and will be held most Wednesdays through May 29, 2019.

Lama Sarah Harding will be joining us on selected Wednesday mornings, dates to be determined.

Lama Tsultrim Allione calls this compilation of all the Chöd lineage teachings from Kongtrul’s compilation in the Dam Nag Dzod collection “the richest most precious gift possible. This is truly a treasure for those interested Machig’s lineage.”

Kongtrul compiles the teachings on Severance or Chöd. It includes some of the tradition’s earliest source scriptures, such as the “grand poem” of Āryadeva, and numerous texts by the renowned founder of the tradition, Machik Lapdrön. Kongtrul also brings together the most significant texts on the rites of initiation, empowerments for practice, and wide-ranging instructions and guides for the support of practitioners. Altogether, this quintessential guide to Severance offers vast resources for scholars and practitioners alike to better understand this unique and remarkable tradition-the way of severing the ego through the profound realization of emptiness and compassion.

Please join us for our immersion into this exciting treasure resource. We will be studying selected chapters from the book and our weekly sessions will combine meditation, study and discussion.
