Magyu Biennial Gathering – Honoring the Mandala (Retreat in Colorado)

With Lama Tsultrim Allione, Dorje Lopön Charlotte Rotterdam and Lopön Karla Jackson-Brewer, M.S.

August 5 - 9, 2024

In this special year marking the 30th Anniversary of Tara Mandala, we celebrate the sacred and powerful land that is the home of the Magyu lineage. This is a special time to gather with fellow Magyu sangha members for practice, teachings and shared conversations.

This year our theme is the Mandala teachings which highlight the wisdoms of the five Buddha families: All-Encompassing Wisdom, Mirror-Like Wisdom, Equanimity, Wisdom of Discernment, All-Accomplishing Wisdom. We’ll explore how these wisdoms and related encumbered patterns play out in our own lives, and how we can work with them skillfully through practices we have received from Lama Tsultrim. We will spend time outside, integrating with the elements and deepening our embodied connection to the sacred land of Tara Mandala.

Our main practice will be the Dakini Mandala; we will also practice the Buddha and YabYum Mandalas. Those new to the practice will be offered an introduction, while those familiar with them will have the opportunity to deepen and hone their understanding.

The retreat is open to anyone on the Magyu Path.

 The Retreat includes:

  •  Morning and Evening Practices of the Dakini Mandala, Buddha Mandala and/or YabYum Mandala
  • Teachings on the Mandala and Five Buddha Families
  •  Personal transformation practices developed by Lama Tsultrim to transform the encumbered patterns of emotional suffering into wisdom
  • Small group break-outs with different teachers to discuss practice-related topics and questions
  •  Integration with the Elements practices on the land
  •  Magyu Community Council

Who Can Attend?

  • This program is open to all members of the Magyu: The Mother Lineage program.
  • Please note that the weekend before this retreat, Tara Mandala will celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a special weekend event with Lama Tsultrim offering the Machig Empowerment! Click here to visit the registration page for this event.
  • Cady Allione will offer a children’s program for families attending with children ages 6-12. Please see below for more details and contact our Registrar at registrar@taramandala.org for more information and to register your child for that program.

Are There Prerequisites?
Practitioners wishing to participate in this program must have already applied for and been accepted into the Magyu: The Mother Lineage Program before registering.

Children’s Program during the Magyu Gathering
We are very happy to offer a program, led by Cady Allione, for children ages 6-12 who are accompanying their parent/caregiver to the Magyu Gathering. This is a wonderful opportunity for kids to be introduced to simple meditation practices, the mandala and the sacred, wild land of Tara Mandala. Children will enjoy arts, story and time outdoors during the time that adults are in session. There will also be some group family time during which you will be asked to join your children for collaborative activities.

Registration for this retreat will close on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 10:00am (MDT).

To prepare for your visit, we invite you to read our information on Tara Mandala’s Health & Safety Protocols for In-Person Retreats.

Tara Mandala Pricing Guidelines
As we work to become an equitable, diverse and inclusive community, our pricing guidelines are intended to be a map, inviting each of us to take inventory of resources that contribute to our access to precious dharma teachings. While we do ask you to look inward, please know there is no right or wrong answer. We encourage you to select the range/rate appropriate to your circumstances. To learn more about Tara Mandala’s pricing guidelines for Online Programs, In-Person Retreats, and Special Promotions, please visit this page.

Offering dana to the teacher: The practice of offering dana, which means “generosity,” is the traditional offering the student makes to the teacher as a symbol of appreciation, gratitude, and reciprocity for receiving the precious teachings. Information on offering dana to the teacher will be provided during the retreat. To learn more about dana and suggested dana ranges, please click here
