Treasury of Precious Qualities Part I
with Ven. Khenmo Tsering Lhamo
May 9 - June 20, 2026
with Ven. Khenmo Tsering Lhamo
Tara Mandala is honored to host Khenmo Tsering Lhamo’s first public teachings in the West. Khenmo la will be in residence at Tara Mandala for three years, teaching residents and sangha, and supporting many of the programs taking place on the land this summer. Her weekly teachings on the Treasury of Precious Qualities will be offered online for all, live streamed from the Tara Mandala Temple, giving everyone an opportunity to meet Khenmo la.
“Treasury of Precious Qualities (Book One) is a translation of the first part of Jigme Lingpa’s Treasury of Precious Qualities, which is a slender volume of elegant verses that sets out briefly but comprehensively the Buddhist path according to the Nyingma school. The concise root text and its use of elaborate poetic language, rich in metaphor, requires extensive explanation, amply supplied here by the commentary of Kangyur Rinpoche.”
It is hard to overstate the importance of Jigme Lingpa to the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He is considered the incarnation of both the great master Vimalamitra and the Dharma king Trisong Detsen. After becoming a monk, he had a vision of Mañjuśrīmitra, which led him to change from monk’s robes to the white shawl and long hair of a yogi. In his late twenties, he began a long retreat during which he experienced visions and discovered termas. A subsequent retreat a few years later served as the container for multiple visions of Longchenpa, resulting in the Longchen Nyingtig tradition of terma texts, sadhanas, prayers, and instructions.
