Tara Mandala’s Code of Conduct and Ethical Policies establish the behavioral and relational standards that govern every participant, teacher, staff member, and resident across all programs, whether held onsite at our 700-acre Vajrayana retreat center in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, or within our global online Sangha. Founded in 1993, Tara Mandala has long been committed to translating Buddhist ethical principles into clear, enforceable community agreements. That commitment has a documented history: Tara Mandala adopted its first Sexual Harassment Policy in 2010, making it one of the earlier Buddhist organizations in the West to formalize such protections, and has spoken out against sexual misconduct in Dharma settings more broadly. That policy is incorporated into our Main Code of Conduct, one of four interconnected documents housed on this page alongside our Leadership Values, Communications Agreement, and Residential Agreement, each designed to protect the safety, dignity, and spiritual integrity of every person who engages with our community. Together, these policies reflect Tara Mandala’s foundational commitment to equity, inclusion, accountability, and Right Speech as defined within the Buddhist ethical tradition, ensuring that practitioners of all backgrounds can pursue the path of awakening in an environment of trust and mutual respect.
