Overview
This 8-week online course will consist of a balance of lectures, discussion, study and practice so that the teachings can become integrated into your body, mind and spirit. You should find everything you need to orient yourself on this course overview page.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Each week you will have a two-hour lecture with Karla Jackson-Brewer. You will also have the choice of two different day/times for attending the weekly two-hour meditation practices (see schedule below). Recordings of the live webcast for both the teaching and the meditation will be posted to the course website each week.
Throughout this course you will:
- Learn the historical and practical elements of the Vajrayana (Diamond Vehicle), including the mandala principle, the dakinis, and deity yoga.
- Receive teachings and transmissions for two meditation practices on the mandala developed by Lama Tsultrim: The Mandala of the Five Buddhas and The Yab Yum Mandala of the Male and Female Buddhas.
This Course Includes:
- Eight (8) live Zoom teaching and discussion sessions with TM senior teacher Karla Jackson-Brewer (2 hrs each)
- Two (2-hr) live Zoom weekly practice sessions, led by either Karla or the assistant teacher for the course (attendance at one session per week is required)
- Practice log to record daily practice sessions (required)
- Friendly weekly quizzes to assess progress
- Audio and video recordings of each teaching session (access for one year)
- Summary overview of each teaching session’s topics
- Optional exam (for those taking this course for credit): October 30, 2022
- Tsog celebration & final practice – The last practice session for the course will be followed by a Tsog celebration on Sunday, Nov. 6th from 10:00am – 1:00pm (MT)
Taking this Course for Credit Toward Tara Mandala Programs:
This program fulfills the same requirement as the Vajrayana residential (or virtual) retreat. It is required for the Magyu Mother Lineage Program, the Gateway Program, and as recommended on a case-by-case basis for the Ösel Nyingtig Program. If you would like credit for attending this course please note the following requirements. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
Attendance:
- Teaching sessions may be viewed live or via the recording which will be posted to the course web portal.
- Meditation sessions (one per week) must be attended each week IN PERSON.
- Be aware that in order for us to verify attendance you must be visible (have your video ON and be visible) throughout the meditation session.
- You must also be sure that your screen name on zoom matches the name we have for registration.

Complete and turn in a Weekly Practice Log:
- We will be working with several different practices in our meditation sessions. The expectation is that you have a daily practice of whatever meditation we have worked with in that week. We understand you may be doing other practices. The expectation is the same.

Pass the final (oral) exam – October 30, 2022
- Our assistant teacher, Lisa Erickson, will hold a weekly 1-hour study group following the Saturday meditation. In it, she will facilitate a discussion of the exam questions that were covered during that week’s teaching.
- We will also provide you with a complete list of all questions and answers that could be asked on the exam several weeks before the exam.
- You will be asked 3 questions at random from that list during your exam.

You will receive an email notifying you when the weekly lesson page has become available (about 48 hours following the lecture). Video recordings of the lecture and of the meditation will be posted there as well. Through the ‘Course Content’ menu below you can see what you have completed, and access each lesson and video, as they become available week-by-week.
Please remember to click the “mark as complete” text at the bottom of each page or you will not be given access to the following topic or week. You are free to return to any topic, at any time.
