We will commence the symposium with a welcome address from co-hosts Lama Tsultrim Allione and Shiva Rea followed by a devotional Kirtan led by Krishna Das. Krishna Das is a world-renowned, inspiring Chant Master who will lead us in singing devotional Kirtan to the Goddess. Nominated for a Grammy award in 2012, he has devoted his life to Bhakti Yoga. He became the first great western Kirtan singer, and was a close Guru Bhai of Ram Dass since the early 1970’s. Let us gather in community to honor what is and what is to come.

Responding to the Cries of Nature

Our collective psyche is responding to this challenging time through dreams and visions. This is a time when the soul calls us back to ourselves to recalibrate our lives and the world – our connection to nature. It is vital that we heed this call. Drawing from Jungian Psychology and Mayan cosmology, Nancy Swift Furlotti, PhD will explore the parallels of the natural environment with the conditions we have created in our world.

Encountering the White Buffalo Calf Woman

Born on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota, Chief Arvol Looking Horse was given the responsibility of becoming the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe at the age of twelve. He is widely recognized as a chief and the spiritual leader of all three branches of the Sioux tribe. Chief Arvol Looking Horse, will tell the story of the original encounter with White Buffalo Calf Woman and its relevance today, in connection with Mother Earth and the COVID-19 crisis.

Soul Kirtan

The queen of Soul Kirtan, C.C. White blends traditional kirtan with old school Soul, Reggae, Southern Blues and Gospel. Daughter of a Gospel Operatic mother, she has been singing since childhood and embodies exotic soulful chant performances that effortlessly enrapture audiences. C.C. White will lead us in devotional chants and dancing to honor the Great Mother and other goddesses relevant to these times.

RAIN Meditation: A Practice of Radical Compassion

Tara Brach is the founder and guiding teacher of the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. In this session, Tara will talk about how the suffering of our global crisis arises from fear – being imprisoned in the trance of separation. This talk and guided RAIN Meditation draws on the wisdom of the sacred feminine, and explores pathways that reveal our intrinsic belonging to loving awareness.

In this session, author, poet, and ordained Zen Buddhist priest Zenju Earthlyn Manuel will impart and guide us into our wisdom as we meet this moment. This is a time to remain stopped in our tracks. It is the time to allow change rather than be in control of it. The culture is transforming on its own. Can we allow the world to change without imposing our thinking and strategy? How can we be still given our level of fear and need to survive?

Behavioral geneticist, writer, and activist Susan Smalley, PhD will explore the science of mindfulness and how it can inform and shape a mindfulness practice. Understanding mindfulness from both first person and third person approaches can aid in realizing our interdependent and changing nature and the wisdom rising in that awareness.

Chthonic Emergence: Honoring Darkness & Creating Anew

Our current pandemic has opened a larger number of eyes, minds, and hearts to the reality that we are living in an unraveling world. We are moving towards a mass awakening to our ecological and social crises and the need for a collective vision that moves us towards unprecedented change and healing. While so many seek to jump into immediate, fiery action, feminine, earth-based wisdom often arises within darkness. This talk will focus on partnering with darkness to create lasting and profound change for all sentient Earth beings. Jeanine M. Canty is a Professor of Environmental Studies at Naropa University, a Buddhist inspired institution in Boulder, Colorado.

A Journey with the Wisdom Dakini

In this morning’s session, Lama Tsultrim Allione will speak about the Dakinis in connection with COVID-19 and lead us in a practice of the Mandala of the Five Dakinis followed by a Journey with the Dakini, giving us this experiential tool for working with the current crisis.

The Force of the Mamos: Messages from the Divine Wrathful Mother

Sangye Khandro is a Tibetan translator, Tibetan Buddhist teacher, and an accomplished practitioner of the Great Perfection Chöd tradition of Troma Nagmo, the Black Wrathful Mother. In this session, Sangye will speak on wrathful feminine deities called mamos who are considered to be among the main natural forces which may respond to human misconduct and environmental misuse by creating obstacles and disease.
