Memorial Stupas
Each golden, jeweled stupa rests in its own niche, held within the living tradition of the Dharma.
Reserving a Memorial Stupa can bring clarity to end-of-life planning and create a meaningful place for future generations to visit, offering a continuing connection between those who have passed and those who come after them.
Memorial Stupas
Throughout Buddhist history, stupas have served as sacred monuments, holding relics, cremated remains, and offerings, and are considered sacred places for pilgrimage and contemplation.
Within the Zhitro Temple
At Tara’s Pure Land, each Memorial Stupa is approximately nine inches tall, holds a small portion of cremated remains, and rests in perpetuity in one of 288 niches lining the walls of the Zhitro Temple and encircling a five-foot statue of Vajrasattva yab yum.
Planning Ahead
Planning ahead lets you record your wishes clearly and gives your designated contact the information they will need when the time comes.
A limited number of Memorial Stupas are available.
The stupa is personalized with an inscription, and a ceremony is held when the cremated remains are placed inside. Memorial Stupas are available for $5,000, with payment plans offered.
What to Expect
Once a Memorial Stupa is reserved, you will receive an agreement confirming the reservation.
You will also receive forms and instructions for delivering the cremated remains and designating a contact to communicate with Tara Mandala when the time comes.

The stupa may be personalized with a name, Dharma name, birth and death dates, and a few words of personal meaning within the available space.
Inscription guidelines and examples are provided as part of the reservation process.
When the cremated remains arrive at Tara Mandala, a qualified practitioner will lead the ceremony in which they are placed inside the Memorial Stupa. The stupa is then placed within the Zhitro Temple.
